Funding for 2012/2013 School Year
Recently the EEF awarded Olympic View Elementary with $20,000 for the 2012/2013 school year. It is important to Olympic View that technology doesn’t merely provide an alternative learning pathway, but rather strengthens and augments students learning. Funding will be used for a Technology Support Staff person, Interactive Whiteboards/Smart Boards, and iPad’s. The Technology Support Staff will monitor and teach computerized programs to close achievement gaps in learning, accelerate English Learners, expose students to non-fiction text, accelerate high performing students, and act as an incentive for reading comprehension. This person also will maintain databases in which students are enrolled, ensure the programs are meeting the needs of each student, create custom courses and print out progress reports for each teacher, administrator and parent upon request. This person will ensure that they students and staff are prepared to handle skills required by society in the 21st century. Also, the Interactive Whiteboards are large, interactive, multi-media displays that combine the functions of a whiteboard, projector, and computer or iPad. Students engage in a classroom based, interactive learning process. Combine this with the significant enhancements that the iPad offers teaching and you have a very technological savvy group of children.
